Digital Photography Club
Membership is growing and we have a small sub-group with digital SLR cameras with members finding the mutual support very helpful.

Meetings are usually held on 2nd Tuesday of the month, and the venue will of course vary dependent on time of year and weather conditions.

Meetings include discussions & demonstrations not only on how particular images were taken, but what kind of electronic wizardry may have been used.

Meetings occasionally include guest speakers, who encourage us through their experience and knowledge to get out there and try for ourselves, so we are also planning summer outings.

New recruits are always welcome, and anyone who wishes to come along should contact Ann on 01964 543 883 or 07889 268 473
or email ann.underwood@sky-lincs.fsnet.co.uk

Local History Group
Now with over 30 members, the Leven Local History Group meet on the first Monday of the month at the Leven Recreation Hall.

The first meeting was held back in February 2008 and following initial encouragement and advice, many members are now enjoying researching their chosen aspect of local history. The monthly meetings have been well attended and there have been some interesting speakers.

Steady progress has been made covering a wide variety of subjects - from the development of Leven Village Stores to researching village chapels and looking into the stories behind the names on the War Memorial. Others are working on subjects from ghost stories to canal tragedies, and there is also an ongoing debate about the location of one of the villages mills.

The group currently have around 60 old photo's of the village but are on the lookout for more in order to put together a 'past and present' series.

New members are always welcome - for more details, Joyce at the Post Office will be able to help.

Phone Jean Hewitt on 01964 544 730 for more details.

Leven Lites
Out of little acorns, giant oak trees grow - well that's how Leven Lites started one evening round a table in West Street - (after a few glasses of wine).

The people to blame for it all are Heather and Chris Raw plus Bob and Ruth Whatley. Way back in 2005 Heather said how much she would like to write a pantomime and (after a few glasses of wine) the other 3 said how they would be "willing" to contribute!! These people became our founding members and original committee members. (whom we all have shrines in honour of)!!

Well it finally happened, Heather wrote her first Pantomime "Cinderella" and they all waited for people to attend auditions. The response was incredible, and since then, Leven Lites have performed Pantomimes every year, plus one act plays and comedies, all of which have been met with resounding approval.

In conclusion, Leven Lites are here, and hopefully to stay. Our members total 30 + inclusive of senior cast members, junior cast members and 'helpers', often the most important ones who provide support to the budding actors/actresses with costumes, props, backstage, front of house (and encouragement)

Phone Heather Raw on 01964 503 440 for more details.

Leven Women's Institute
Apart from the normal monthly meetings, we have had the opportunity to take part in many other events within the East Riding Federation.

One of the aims of the W.I. is education, and we are aware the crafts and skills are in danger of being lost by not bring passed on through the generations

Whilst members of our Institute can boast a wealth of talent, we felt we would like to learn more skills and share what we learn with the wider community through organised events.

Leven Wives
This group was started in 1963 by the then Rector Canon Lamb and his wife and was called the "Anglican and Methodist Young Wives." At the same time there was another group for the older ladies in the parish called the "Woman's Fellowship." Meetings were held in the vestry at Holy Trinity Church. In the late 1970s the Young Wives were not attracting new members so a meeting was called for both groups to meet in the Methodist Church under the chairmanship of Canon Hawkins' wife. As both groups had lost members for various reasons it was unanimously agreed to join together and be just "The Leven Wives' Group."

The programme is more or less the same format for each year; January, a social evening and subscription paying (£5 per year), February, March, April and May speakers, in June we have a cake and plant stall outside the Cost Cutter Shop for a local charity, July, often a coffee morning of afternoon tea in a member's garden for our own funds. There are no meetings in July and August and we then start up again in September.

The Leven Wives meet in the Methodist chapel, East Street, on the third Monday of the monthat 7:30pm.

Various interesting speakers have been booked and in the summer a plant and cake stall is held outside Costcutters to raise money for local charities.

Senior Citizens & Friends Association
We hold our get-togethers at the Recreation Hall on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 10.00am till approximately 11.30am.

Coffee and biscuits are served, we have two raffles and bingo, and you can, if you want to, join the 100 Club.

All proceeds from the above go towards the bi-annual coach trips, which all members enjoy, whilst contributing a small amount towards the cost.

If you are interested and would like to come along and meet new friends, enjoy some good conversation, please look out for our monthly poster at the Post Office and in the Leven Life magazine.

Phone Jane Smith on 07852 495 820 for more information.
